Meet my blog: take a bite

My second post needs to be just a few words about the blog itself.
I chose the name as a derivative (generated long ago by a computer from
letters of my name) of my e-mail address, but also as
that name's own source: bliny (singular: blin) is a favorite
of Russian folk cuisine. Not a pancake (yuck), better than
French crepe, although similar. Tasty whether eaten plain or folded
over whatever you might have--herring, jam, just butter and the list could
go on. I hope you'll find a variety of flavors in my blog. I'm not sure
how often I'll be able to post (Internet access in Moscow is quite expensive now,
not to mention expected inconvenience). I will cover random topics, but
it won't be a journal per se. Please tune in. I hope to post entries
several times a week, except when I'm traveling (I leave October 3 for a short
trip to Rostov the Great and beyond, northeast of Moscow.
While I will be delighted to hear from any and all of you, I may not be
able to answer individually until I get home on November 3, just in time to vote.

There's a wise Russian proverb: the first blin comes out a lump (1yi blin komom).
This can apply to any new endeavor, but here I can say it quite literally.
Please excuse all lumps whether in my first or susequent posts. Unfortunately
lumps are limited to just the first blin.

Hey, Bliny, glad you got back to Mother Russia OK! Love your blog, and we'll be checking it regularly. We are going to try to go to the throat singing concert, and will invite Tania--thanks for the tip. Safe travels, my friend Poka!
